How to Make Your Home an Oasis of Harmony in 5 Easy Steps.

The beautiful island of Ibiza is not only known internationally for being the capital of party but also for its strong spiritual side. Many houses around the island are decorating as a reflection of this spiritual lifestyle, and there are little tricks that you can take on board too to make your home a peaceful oasis, where you can rest your mind and recharge your soul.

Here we have rounded up our 5 simple steps to turn your home into your sanctuary of harmony.

Go for soft colours

A quiet space is all about natural colours, in soft tones, such as white, grey, beige or soft pastel colours, which have the power to induce a sense of relaxation and calmness. Chromatic harmony between the elements is very important as well as combining dominant colours and match them with the rest of the room to achieve a sense of continuity between walls, furniture and floors.

2. Keep furniture and textiles simple and natural

Try to pick furniture that have simple and clear lines, avoiding complicated detail and excess decoration. The furniture should be high quality and made of natural materials as these bring a sense of warmth and relaxation. Cover your sofa and bedroom with soft cushions and pick natural fabrics such as linen, wool or cotton to wrap you gently.

3. Keep ornaments and decorations to a minimum

For wall decorations there is the same word of order: simplicity. Avoid to over-crowd your walls with collections of paintings or photos and keep only those that are especially close to you. Try to clear your room of as many items as possible, as clutter can inhibit relaxation – keep only the essentials, but feel free to add whatever may bring you extra comfort.

4. Enhance your room with natural scents

A homemade linen spray, beeswax candles and essential oils are all natural ways to enhance your room with fresh scents, which can’t only be calming when it’s time to sleep, but also invigorating when it’s time to wake.

5. Play with soft and natural light

Try to enhance the natural light – don’t cover the window with dark curtains. For a fully relaxing space, replace harsh fluorescent lights with calming, nature-inspired or candle lights. Place different sources of light which will allow you to control the intensity and the areas to be lighted. Avoid projecting a strong direct light from the ceiling and take advantage of all possibilities to mix a floor lamp, a table lamp and diffused light.
